Frequently asked questions

There is no legal requirement to use an accountant for Self-Assessment and it may be simple enough to do yourself if your finances are simple and you understand what you are doing.  However, it can be time consuming and costly if you make a mistake.  Using an accountant provides you with peace of mind as they have all the knowledge required to process your figures accurately and ensure that you pay the right amount of tax.

Our friendly personal tax experts at Banks Sheridan provide a thorough and best value service to produce and submit your tax return so that you know you are paying the right amount of tax.

Making Tax Digital for VAT is part of a wider government initiative to digitalise all tax systems and make it easier for taxpayers to assess how much tax they owe. HMRC plan to put MTD ITSA into force from April 2026 for businesses and landlords with an annual turnover above £50,000 and from April 2027 for businesses and landlords with an annual turnover above £30,000.  A date has not been set for general partnerships and business landlords earning below £30,000.
